AS Coursework Reflection

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used digital technologies in the research stage by analysing the opening scenes to films in the action genre that I wanted to incorporate elements of into my own opening scene. I watched the opening scenes on youtube so that I had a wide range of action film openings that I could choose from. I chose to look at the opening scenes of The Bourne Ultimatum, Pirates Of The Caribbean 3, The Dark Knight, Sin City and Hancock. What I learnt from these films was that something significant always seemed to happen within the first five minutes of the film, which leaves the audience wanting to find out why it happened. In the construction of my film I used digital technologies, using a camera and microphone. I edited my film using a computer programme called Ulead Studios. For my evaluation I asked people to watch my film and leave comment's on the blog and give me some feedback about what was good and what could have been improved.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

In our audience feedback, a few people commented on the lighting in some scenes so I will definitely concentrate more on that in my next piece of work. Some of the shot's we had filmed were lighter than others as we had filmed them on different day's so we edited them to make them look darker but they were still not the same. I need to focus on keeping up continuity during the film and thinking about what times filming should take place in relation to how light or dark the shot's should be. I think that the music we chose was effective and fitted in well with the film so I will be careful in selecting future music to make sure that it goes well with what is being shown on the screen.
